Louisville, Kentucky--Now that Congress has cut a third from the Department of Energy's fusion program--long the primary employer of plasma physicists--job prospects for researchers in the field look grim. But salvation may come from the computer industry. Plasma etching is crucial to the production of dense, high-performance microcircuits, and plasma physicists are in increasing demand to refine the process.
