The prestigious Albert Lasker Basic Medical Research Award was given earlier this month to Robert Furchgott and Ferid Murad for "seminal and ingenious discoveries which led to the fundamental understanding of the role of nitric oxide in health and disease." But some researchers, including several Nobel Prize-winners, argue that another pioneer in the field should also have been recognized: Salvador Moncada of University College, London. And some say that a fourth important leader was left out: Lou Ignarro of the University of California, Los Angeles.
