An international paleontological expedition to explore an important site in northwest China was disrupted and ended prematurely after a disagreement over the terms of the research agreement between western scientists and their Chinese collaborators and hosts. Some researchers and research officials say the incident highlights a persistent and growing problem for scientists who hope to work in China, and the need to find solutions that are acceptable to both sides.
