Tucson, Arizona--The Galileo probe found a surprising lack of water in the depths of Jupiter's atmosphere last December, forcing researchers to rethink their ideas on the giant planet's formation. Now, new calibrations of probe data plus other observations presented at the recent American Astronomical Society Division for Planetary Sciences meeting here suggest that the dryness doesn't extend to the whole planet but is a meteorological phenomenon limited to deep pockets in the atmosphere.
