New Studies Affirm BSE-Human Link

One of the most worrying consequences of Britain's outbreak of "mad cow disease"--that humans might become infected by consuming contaminated beef--appears to be confirmed in research published this week in Nature. In new work, researchers injected mice with infectious brain samples from cows with BSE, patients who had vCJD, and patients who had the classic form of CJD, and concluded that vCJD and BSE in mice are the same, and both are distinct from CJD.
