HUMAN GENETICS:
A More Rational Approach to Gauging Environmental Threats?
Jocelyn Kaiser
One of the biggest potential payoffs from an environmental genome project is that it could help policy-makers clarify which population groups are most at risk and thus devise rules that better protect sensitive individuals. Data on the prevalence of susceptibility genes could reduce the need for guesswork, in some cases resulting in a less stringent standard and in others a tighter one.
