ASTROPHYSICS:
Making Sense of Active Galaxies
Daniel W. Weedman
Active galaxies are unusual in their structure and brightness. The general consensus is that active galaxies are powered by matter falling into black holes, but questions remain about the precise mechanism of the infall and how the very bright luminosity is produced. In his Perspective, Weedman reports on a recent symposium on active galaxies held at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory, Armenia.
