PARTICLE PHYSICS:
A Second Hint of Symmetry Violation
James Glanz
Ever since experimenters studying the decay of particles called kaons
in 1964 were tantalized by an effect called CP violation, they have
been eager to get a second look at it, because this basic asymmetry in
physics could explain why the universe contains more matter than
antimatter. Now another case of CP violation may finally be showing
itself, in particles called B mesons.
