NUCLEAR ACCIDENT:
Special Treatment Set For Radiation Victim

One of three workers exposed to a massive dose of radiation in Japan's worse nuclear accident was set to undergo an experimental procedure this week using blood stem cells in an attempt to save his life. The accident at the Tokaimura nuclear fuel reprocessing plant occurred on 30 September after an excess amount of uranium oxide and nitric acid was dumped into a settlement tank, triggering a chain reaction that continued for 18 hours. False reports of an explosion that released radioactive materials led to the evacuation of more than 300,000 residents near the plant, located 110 kilometers northeast of Tokyo.
