Links Between Supernovae and Gamma Ray Bursts Strengthen

Two strong connections and three other possible links between supernovae and highly energetic "long" gamma ray bursts, lasting more than 5 seconds, have recently been established. These connections add support to a model for generating these puzzling bursts of energy--second only to the big bang--that involves the collapse of a supermassive star.
