INDIA:
Cyclone Wrecks Rice, Botanical Centers
Pallava Bagla
NEW DELHI--Two major Indian laboratories are struggling to recover from a powerful cyclone that swept across parts of eastern India late last month. The storm, which packed winds of up to 280 kilometers an hour, caused extensive damage to the Central Rice Research Institute in Cuttack and its germ-plasm stocks as well as destroying much of the collection of rare and exotic plants at the Regional Plant Resource Center in Bhubaneshwar.
