BLUNDER OF THE YEAR:
NASA Tangles With the Metric System

This year saw the failure of two Mars missions: the $87 million Mars Climate Orbiter, which perished in September largely due to confusion between English and metric units; and the Mars Polar Lander, which went missing on 3 December during its final approach to the Red Planet.
