Scant Evidence for an Epidemic of Autism

To many parents of autistic children and a few researchers, reports of rising numbers of autism cases are evidence that the country is experiencing an epidemic. This, in turn, bolsters suspicions that environmental factors, such as pesticides or childhood vaccines, may be to blame. But hard data documenting an increase in actual cases are sorely lacking.
