NOBEL PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY:
Chemists Hear One Hand Clapping
Robert F. Service
William Knowles, K. Barry Sharpless, and Ryoji Noyori won this year's Nobel Prize in chemistry for creating catalysts that can produce a particular geometric form of a compound without creating its mirror-image partner. The work has proved vital for the production of everything from pharmaceuticals and flavorings to advanced materials and insecticides.
