BOSTON--An odd combination of high-tech gurus and senior taxonomists has formed a foundation that aims to catalog and describe every species on Earth. The foundation assembled two dozen scientists last week at Harvard to help figure out how to tackle such a mammoth endeavor. As was clear at the meeting, the bold proposal is raising both the hopes and hackles of taxonomists.
