POETRY:
Images of Inhumanism

A review by Christopher Cokinos

The Selected Poetry of Robinson Jeffers
Tim Hunt, Ed.
Stanford University Press, Stanford, CA, 2001. 774 pp. $75. ISBN 0-8047-3890-4. Paper, $24.95. ISBN 0-8047-4108-5.

This new collection samples both the lengthy story-poems that supported Jeffers's national reputation between the world wars and the short lyric poems on nature that gained him a posthumous following among environmentalists. Our reviewer concludes that these shorter works establish Jeffers as the preeminent American poet of nature, ecology, and science.
