Representation of the interaction of surfactant protein B (SP-B) with phospholipids in pulmonary surfactant. The hydrophilic domains of the protein (yellow squares) interact with the charges of the phospholipid polar head groups (circles), and the hydrophobic stretches of the protein (orange arches) interact with the acyl side chains of the phospholipids (vertical lines).
